Political Map The real deciding factor that put me where I am on our scatterplot, was really my views on how much the government controls us and plays a role in our daily lives. And since the government controls almost everything that happens in the US, it effects my daily life a lot, and there should be a more local (State government) approach to rules and regulations that affect me personally. But I also would like to see a lot more power to the people in this situation, and an equal balance of sorts between the two, and that would be the most beneficial thing for our government.
Friday Discussion In our class discussion that lasted nearly the entire 2 hours on friday, I really just struggled staying engaged in the conversation due to the fact that personally I had no idea why we were arguing, discussing or even had the opportunity to talk about our class like that. There was a lot of confusion and I really just feel like we could have been doing a lot more constructive things with our time rather than just arguing in circles and not getting anywhere. I personally especially in school just like to be told what to do, and have a set of guidelines, due dates and things that need to be done laid out in front of me and I complete the assignment. I don't think that really having the option to design our project from scratch is really the best use of our time in class. I am a huge fan of creative writing and really just would have had a lot more fun with a prompt such as "In your eyes, how would you make the US government better and up to your standards?" or "What do you think you would do if you were president for a day?". Those are just two prompts I feel like I would love to write about, take my notebook outside and just write rather than watch my peers go around in circles about things that we didn't need to be arguing about. Especially certain classmates who experienced a lot of distaste in our conversation, I felt that maybe that was a red flag Marcus might see and steer our conversation to something more productive or constructive but that never happened. I feel like there just needs to be a little more structure and feedback with things like this, and it would be very helpful for us to visit certain norms and expectations we used for class discussions in past years at Animas High school and make sure that when our class has conversations like this, they are constructive, helpful and engaging for nearly all students in the classroom.
What should we do fo
Issues that interest me I think that we should try and blend the local cultural and health ideas into one topic because those two are the ones I feel would strongly help support our youth. Something along the lines of making sure that kids and teens know the perceptions of youth, are well educated and make sure each individual has the same opportunities as the rest. As well as making sure they all have access to healthy food, know how to stay healthy and are educated on some of the risks of taking drugs and drinking alcohol. Some ideas include going to the middle schools and the elementary schools and doing talks, as well as drawing up a new plan for healthier school lunches and food included in the school in an effort to make sure kids are getting the nutrition they need and are staying healthy.
Making America a more perfect union I see myself helping to make America in a more perfect union with my positive attitude towards others everywhere I go, an overwhelming majority of people in America aren’t happy and its something that needs to change. If Americans are happy, our union will most definitely progress farther and farther ahead and drive forward that goal of America being a more perfect union.
